FAQs
Is word of mouth a good strategy for marketing my NDIS business?
Your past and current professional conduct is on display with each participant, carer and others in the community. If others witness elements of the NDIS Code of Conduct in your professional behaviour, word of mouth can be a powerful help in building and maintaining your professional reputation.
Witnesses of professional and ethical conduct are often inspired to share what they witnessed with others. This can be a powerful endorsement of your work that may lead to future client engagement opportunities for you or a company that you work for.
Could Networking with Local Area Coordinators (LACs) be a good collaboration strategy?
LACs work under contract to the NDIS and link people with disabilities, both with and without NDIS funding, to information and support in their community.
You are one of those supports, therefore LACs in your area would want to know all the services that are available in the community, including yours.
Keeping current with local services can be challenging for LACs, so it only makes their job easier to know about your service and why your clients love it.
What Are NDIS Plan Managers and How Could I Collaborate with Them?
Plan managers help NDIS participants manage the funding in their NDIS plan. They help monitor funds and provide financial reporting.
They don’t link participants with services in the community, but they are expected to uphold participant rights as consumers and encourage participants to make informed choices about their services1.
Introducing yourself and your services can be a positive step forward to start collaboration conversations.

What are NDIS Support Coordinators and How Could I Collaborate With Them?
Support Coordinators assist participants to build the skills you need to understand, implement and use your plan. A support coordinator will work with you to ensure a mix of supports are used to increase your capacity to maintain relationships, manage service delivery tasks, live more independently and be included in your community.
Their job would definitely be easier if they knew about your service. You can reach out personally and meet support coordinators at expos and other events to start collaboration conversations.
Should I Wait to Be Registered Before Engaging Clients?
The registration process can take months, and there can be significant wait times, however you can use this time to engage your first clients.
You don’t need to be registered to deliver services to participants who self-manage or have a plan manager for the services that you provide. You do need to use your operational processes and build up records like completed service agreements and consent forms as evidence for your audit.
Engaging clients early can give your business a financial kick start, and the opportunity to fine-tune and improve your business processes.
